Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi (Krish) – Good Sensible Off-beat Film Maker

 Krish is one of the few directors who balance his films between Popular Cinema and Cult Film. That makes him survive in this Mainstream Movie era. He has said in many interviews that he was very passionate about story telling and that makes him a candid story teller. And the way he writes story is something uncommon and very special. Besides, his execution is flawless. And especially the climax sequences in his most films will be heart-rending for the viewers. Actually the fact is that the films which make you cry are strenuous than the films which make you laugh. Probably his intension in dramatizing tragic ending in his films is to manifest that life has tragic events too in addition to happy moments.

Gamyam is a path breaking off-beat movie much needed in Tollywood that time. As many successful film makers are comfortable producing Mainstream films, the upcoming directors too are on the same track. So there’s no hope for Cult films and off-beat Movies. But Krish likes to do Good Sensible cinema. In order to keep things going on, he combines very little Popular Cinema elements to entertain Mainstream moviegoers.

“If you want to understand what life is really, you must explore the world” – It’s the main theme of Gamyam. In the journey to find his lover with Naresh, Sharwa understand what life is, he understands that money won’t make one’s life better. However, in this picture Krish also depicted the meaningless mottos and principles of Naxals. Naresh in this movie have balanced Comic role and also created much emotional impact during the climax at ease. Surely its one of the best movie that tollywood has ever made.

When talking about Anthology Movie “Vedam”, it was the first ever Anthology film I have seen. None of the telugu film makers had attempted this kind of film earlier. Here Krish had flawlessly written 5 stories and then he interlinked each story with other. In Anthology films, execution is the key and Krish was Impeccable in doing so. Generally writing stories, dialogues, funny scenes and emotional scenes doesn’t require much effort but Anthology films will always be a challenging task. It consists of many different lives’s (Stories) which are interconnected.

“Hope”, “Change”, “Value of Money”, “Apathetic” and “Truth on Oneself” are the five short stories in Vedam and Krish was magnificent in casting those 5 characters that include Saranya mam, Anushka, Allu Arjun, Manchu Manoj and Manoj Bajpayee. All were Flawless and fantastic in the respective five short films. Mainly Krish should be praised for the film’s non linear approach of Narration and at the same time he made it simple and easily understandable to viewers. And most probably its screenplay remains most singular in Tollywood. MM Keeravani sir’s music was very situational and stands as major asset to the film. If you observe the lyrics clearly, the songs in this cult movie convey the story.

Noveltry film “Krishnam Vande Jagadguram” deals with illegal mining in Bellary. This flick was comparable to an “Underground Movie” as the film comprises of a little mainstream drama. Rana was apt in his character and was very dynamic in doing the role of an artist. Debutant Milind Gunaji was cold-hearted and manipulative. The film have many spine chilling scenes which will touch your heart. Though, there’s nothing to learn and inspire from this film, it’s just a different attempt against commercial cinema. Whoever watches this film will definitely talk about the theme song. Mani Sharma was at his best in giving an hard hitting theme score which when heard will get goosebumps certainly. Besides it may be difficult for Krish to depict this movie in 3 hours and the last song does that to some extent for Krish.

His latest venture “Kanche” was a Hyperlink film. Krish was always interested in doing different kinds of movies. Here different is not about producing dissimilar genres. It is rather than about changing the way in the process of writing the story. Hyperlink cinema is about showcasing all the flashback sequences and flash-forward scenes either in linear or nonlinear structure. They need not be in chronological order. May be you may have watched Christopher Nolan’s “Momento” which is a Hyperlink cinema with Noir as its background. In Hyperlink films, its non-linear narration will always be a difficult task and is hard to make people understand. Frankly saying I didn’t understood “Momento” at my first watch as the flashback sequences are not in chronological order. But Kanche is written in chronological way and is easily penetrable to audience. And this time Krish followed his previous approach in finishing the movie with tradegy. Though the movie got regional National Award, I am disappointed by the critics who gave 3 for Kanche and 3.5 for Srimanthudu. I am not against Srimanthudu but felt that the critics too became commercial. I don’t know on what basis they are giving ratings. A movie like “Kanche” is worth more than 100 mainstream movies. “Reaching a 100 crore benchmark will just make you a businessman but it needs lot more than that to become a true film maker.”

Now the most enjoyable film “Gautamiputra Satakarni” is gonna roll on floors. After doing successful Anthology and Hyperlink films, this time it’s a “Historical Film” from Krish. Probably he’s one of the few film makers in India to attempt this many different kinds of movie. All the best sir for NBK’s 100th film.

Mohan Krishna Indraganti – The Undisclosed Top Dog in Tollywood

Indraganti Mohan Krishna is one of the few “Genuine” directors in South India.

Indraganti Mohan Krishna is an underrated Telugu Director, and his films are not Well-known to all. He’s a Semi Parallel Film Maker. Though he studied abroad, he knows the Indian Culture well as his ancestors being Telugu literates. He’s been an outstanding writer as his ancestors too are in the writing field.

“Grahanam” – I would call it “Must Watch” rather than “Worth Watch”

Coming to his directorial venture “Grahanam”, he said that though he made a documentaty about Grahanam, it was his “Screen Writing Specialization in Master of Fine arts” that helped him in transforming that documentary into a Film. Grahanam Movie’s cast include Bharani sir and Jayalalitha and a few character artists. Actually this movie is based on “Non Linear Narration”.  The Director should be appreciated for its Unpredictable Story line. Every next scene was unimaginable. The whole plot of “Grahanam” involves mainly “Kanakayya” and “Saradamba”. Saradamba has a great liking for Kanakayya and treats him as his son. And Kanakayya too has good relation with Saradamba. And then take place the weirdest thing to Kanakayya. He is attacked by Dosha Gunam which makes him suffer from the severe fever for few days. The Introduction of “Dosha Gunam” was very new. No one in this world would know about that. It can be briefly explained as the state of having physical relation with an elder women. Bharani sir was ultimate in his role  as Saradamba’s husband. Having known about the condition of Kanakayya, I think in this cinema, Indraganti’s intension was to dramatize the poor Superstitions that are believed by the people without any hesitation. Character Artist “Surya” plays the key role. More or less this movie can be categorized as a Back Drop Movie. And Mohan Krishna Indraganti Won the “Gollapudi Srinivas” National Award for Best First Film of a Film and “Indira Gandhi” Award for first best film of a Director.

And the worst thing is a little people know about this movie. This is because due to lack of Commercial genres in the film which the Uneducated Movie Goers Want now.

Then he made Maya Bazaar with Bhumika which is a Reliable movie. Then he conceived the Classic “Asta Chamma”. Nani, Avasarala Srinivas, Colors Swathi and Bhargavi made their dream come true with this flick. The very naturalistic screenplay and childish behaviours of teenagers was broadcasted in this film. This classic movie did made debutant Swathi win Nandi Award for best Actress.

Then he directed my favourite movie when I was studying in school and that’s “Golconda High school”. It’s a sports drama based on cricket.  This film stars Sumanth, Swathi as lead and Bharani sir in a key role. Besides, this film features several teen characters. Sumanth plays the role of Cricket Coach and Bharani sir as Principle. The whole plot involves around Sumanth and Cricket Team of Golconda High school who try to win in an official cricket tournament to protect their school ground from being exploited. And besides, there are little love scenes in between Sumanth and Swathi. This Film will surely entertain every children and teen.

His urban love related movie “Antha Mundu Aa Tharvatha” can be appreciated for its singular screenplay and for its educative story line. Though the movie didn’t run commercially, it got fine acclaim from critics. This time Indraganti tried something very fresh to entertain mass audience. He provided “Wholesome” entertainment via this movie. There’s romance, love, lust and fun all in this movie. Indraganti’s intension was to depict the responsibilities of today’s wife and husband. He also dramatically showed how a person loves and cares his lover before and after their Marriage. This flick can be compared to Mani sir’s “Alaipayuthey” due to its similar story line. But attempting this kind of genre was something which can’t be conceived without any difficulty. The maturity of youth and the problems they face when they marry early are penetrated to audience in a naturalistic way.  It’s a “Must Watch” movie for all family audience, Youth and students.

Indraganti then tasted failure by directed a commercial movie “Bandipotu”. His ill-advised venture into commercial cinema has now rendered him jobless. We wait for a producer to have faith in him and support good Telugu cinema.

 

 

Neelakanta Reddy – Genius Screenwriter

Neelakanta is a director who’s essence of Film making is Obviously Realism..

 

Neelakanta Reddy is an Brilliant Experimental movie maker in the last decade..”Show” was a Breakthrough film  which earned him 2 National Awards..He’s the only person in tollywood to get  National award for Best Screenplay for his Movie “Show”..Though he waited for 8 years after his Debut “Priyanka” tamil movie , he came up with a magnificent story and screenplay in the form of Show..This Ace director said in a Interview that “Show” was made just in 22 days with a minimal budget of 26 lakh..  This Masterpiece was premiered at International film Festival of India..

He has proved that we can make a film without great actors.. “Ghattamanenu Manjula” and “Surya” are the only two notable cast in this movie..The Whole events in this movie takes place for just few hours..  The way he picturized Art was very Delightful..

“Missamma” manifests the showpiece of Neelakanta..Coincidentally this Middle-class director conveys his story with a Middle-class Protagonist..He once again proved that the outcome of a Masterpiece will surely not  depends totally on  star cast and crew..It’s the Story and Script that matters.. The role “Nandagopal” played by Shivaji was very fresh..

“Sada Mee Sevalo”, Emotional Thriller “Nandanavanam 120 Kms” and “Mr Medhavi are his Other Practical Movies..

It’s probably in 2012 when i watched “Virodhi” for the First time.. I was very much fascinated towards that movie.. His representation of “how and why”  Naxals Kidnap Public Figures and VIP’s was cleaned depicted in this Movie.. Srikanth was incredible with his screen presence.. The politics between two major Terror troops is premiered in this movie.. How they apply political attacks and counter attacks is vivid.. And once again this was his second movie to be premiered at International Film Festival of India.. This Naxsalism based movie was Screened in Melbourne International Film Festival too.

Then Neelakanta tasted failure with his Moive “Chammak Challo”.. Though his Intension was clear in this movie too, he wanted to conceive that beauty is present in heart and not in body. Though he starred a underrated and ordinary Hero “Varun Sandesh”, he did his job in his style. The film is just bad but not worse.

Then coming to “Maya” his latest directorial venture did well at box-office.. This time he dealt with a semi super natural element “Extra Sensory Perception”, which means knowing the future in advance..In this Movie Heroine’s  dreams depict the pre-occuring demise events. That’s the reason probably for titling this Movie as “Maya”.. Neelakanta Reddy’s unconventional appraoch made this movie penetrable to Audience.. “Mahesh Bhatt” is planning to redesign this concept for his “Murder-4”.

After “Maya”, no gossips and buzz from Neelakanta Reddy sir, Probably due to lack of Experimental Producers and “Actors” in Telugu.. But I am waiting eagerly for your forthcoming Films.. And “Thanks a ton sir, for conceiving some beautiful and brilliant Movies.”

 

 

 

 

Yeleti Chandra Sekhar – The Unorthodox Film maker..

He’s a kind of film maker who can think out of the box..

Yeleti sir was Exceptionally Talented but couldn’t catch up with an average moviegoer..He did directed Several Cult Classics like “Aithe” , “Anokokunda Oka Roju” and “Sahasam”.These movies has got a lot of appreciation from Passionate Movie lovers..He has a Unique Style in making a film and he never deviates from that..Though he has directed several Significant movies, he’s not getting better opportunities probably..That’s why I m not hesitant in calling him a “Wrong Director in the wrong Industry”. The reason that he didn’t do commercial movies may be, he lacks that potential or due to lack of interest.

The debut “Aithe” won him National award in regional Category. Getting National award for a Debut was something special which shows his Potential.This movie was KK.Senthil Kumar’s Debut too. Pavan Malhotra was the only Scary antagonist in that Movie. Yeleti sir was the only one to cast Pavan malhotra twice in Tollywood.

His 2nd Film “Anokokunda Oka Raju” is trademark Movie.First ever Movie to be made in that sense.Very brave attempt to cast Charmy as Lead role.It’s a Heroine related movie.The Whole Plot revolves around What happened that particular  Night when charmy was Drunk. Jagapathi Babu and Shashank are flawless in their roles.Pavan Malhotra is eye-catching in this Movie with his peculiar performance. Story and screenplay are superb.

Then “Okkadunnadu” and “Prayanam” are experimental movies too which gained him good critical acclaim. The idea of Bombay blood group was amazing. I call Okkadunnadu as Gopichands’s Career mark film after seeing his Performance.Mahesh Manjrekar is astounding in his role.

Prayanam is a complete Love story which was shot entirely at Malaysia Airport. It’s a different subject which he didn’t  had dealt before. There’s romance, comedy, Love and reality. Manchu and Payal Ghosh are watchable in their roles. Brahmi is hilarious too in a naturalistic way.

His Last movie was “Sahasam”.No doubt in calling it a international quality movie.Great decision by BVSN Prasad to produce that movie.Shyam dat’s Visuals are spellbinding.Music is very situational.

But the worst part was critics giving  3 ratings for that as it’s totally unfair on part of the critics as they are giving same ratings for both commercial and Practical movies.

But Finally I am joyful to hear that after 2 years Yeleti is again  Directing a Bi-lingual movie with Mohanlal sir. “Manamantha” to be produced by Sai Korrapati following his 2nd time collaboration with Yeleti sir.Urvashi, Gauthami, SPB sir and Naresh are the confirmed Supporting cast.
